Welcome to Second Missionary Baptist Church!

Rev. Clyde L. Ruffin, born October 21, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri. He accepted the call to the ministry at the age of five and preached his initial sermon shortly thereafter. He was officially licensed as a minister of the gospel in the fall of 1970. He entered the University of Iowa in 1970 where he completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in Speech and Dramatic Arts. In 1976 he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Washington University-St. Louis. Immediately after moving to St. Louis he united with San Francisco Temple Christian Assembly and was ordained in 1978 under the leadership of Bishop Dwight McDaniels. He served this ministry faithfully for six years prior to moving to Columbia, Missouri to accept a senior faculty position with the University of Missouri in 1982.

Rev. Ruffin was licensed as a Baptist minister in 1988. He united with Second Missionary Baptist Church in 1997 where he has served as an associate minister and assistant pastor. In 2002, Rev. Ruffin was awarded a Doctorate in Pastoral Theology from Faith Bible College. He was officially ordained as a Baptist minister in 2002 and subsequently invited to serve as Interim Pastor of Second Missionary Baptist Church. Recognizing the anointing of God on his ministry and his desire to empower all believers to live a life of faith and victory, he was appointed as Senior Pastor in December 2003.

Through his prayerful leadership the following ministries have been established: Online Ministry, Marriage Enrichment Ministry, Boyz to Godly Men, Fine Arts Ministry and Voices of Praise. Because of his vision, we have also embraced the following outreach ministries that have come under our auspices for spiritual covering: For His Glory Inc, Pathway To Maturity, Women of Purpose, New Creation Ministry and Outpouring Dance Ministry International. We also give glory to God for the completion of the vision to build the SMBC Center For Christian Education, dedicated in 2007.

Rev. Ruffin and his wife Sheila will celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary in 2008. God has blessed them with four daughters: Mikisha (Michael) Henry, Joi A. Ruffin, Candace E. Ruffin , Jessica Lauren Ruffin, and three grandsons, Elijah, Benjamin and Micah. Rev. Ruffin is grateful for the calling that rests on his life to be an instrument in the hands of God.
